difference in Xbox 360 HDMI and D-Sub/VGA cable? - Page 2

The VGA cable can do 1080p and you'll see no appreciable difference between using it and an HDMI. This has been answered to death and there are even comparisons (if you google it) saying the same thing.

If you have an HDMI capable XBOX then use a HDMI cable for the best picture. If you have an older XBOX then use a VGA cable for the best picture.

Still, I'm going to say the edge goes to the VGA cable because it allows you to connect your XBOX to your audio system or headphones with an optical (TOSLINK) cable where the HDMI connecor offers no such feature. So VGA= best picture and audio.

The post above should tell you all that you need to know. Whilst there might be a very small difference with using HDMI, it's so minimal you shouldn't worry.

Using a standard D-SUB connection should be fine in almost every case.

Thread Starter
to everyone telling me the VGA does 1080p, i know that already, i'm currently running my xbox at 1080p...the only reason i think i'll see a decent difference is because when i switched my PC from VGA to DVI, it was quite a bit different...MUCH better picture quality

We're talking the XBOX 360 here not a PC. The answer stands, you're not going to see much of a difference if any at all.

Also, we're not telling you that VGA can do 1080P we are correcting those who have said it cannot.

Funny thing, I noticed a difference when I used a 360 on a 19" monitor.

if you have a widescreen tv, yes noticeably. If I was to put my A/V cables back into my 40" 1080p, I wouldn't be able to play, the picture is just too stretched, the HDMI cables fix that but if you are using a smaller monitor, i think its not that important. Depends on what you want really.

The question was is there a difference between VGA and HDMI not HDMI and component cables.

This is composite, NOT yellow VGA. It displays 480i

This is VGA. It is perfectly capable of displaying HD.
