i7 X58 µATX Build Log >stealth<

Here we go. On this build I want to set a few ground rules/goals.
  • micro build
  • i7
  • X-58
  • quiet
  • OC on air (to start anyway )
  • ~$1500
  • Win7 64 bit

Main Software Run
  • MS Office Enterprise
  • CS4 Suite
  • Gaming

This is my third build but I'm no expert so comments are welcome. I am late posting the build so a lot of the decisions are already made. I will be using some existing components to help meet my ~$1500 cost bogey.

To support the micro build I obviously need a micro case. I wanted to do a small form factor since my PC is in an armoire right next to where I work. I got tired of having a loud, towering, glowing, dust magnet taking up a lot of space with all the distracting bling. This is also why I wanted quiet.
The PC DesignLabs Qmicra was selected for its airflow, appearance and modding capability. I've had my eye on the Qmicra since the first version.

I chose the black powder coat with a blue Bulgin vandal switch, blue HDD light and sound deadening already installed. I probably didn't need the sound dampening since the case is so open and I'm not sure how much effect it will have?

One cool feature of this case is it allows you to mount the PSU in either orientation. This may come in handy if I add a blow hole later.

This case can accommodate up to seven 120mm fans, four HDDs and three 5.25 bays, just not all at once. Actually, with its design the combinations are endless. There is also a fair amount of space for water cooling for a small form factor case.

Total damage including shipping = $274.85

Let's take off the cover and look inside this puppy.

It comes with screws and what not. I'm not too crazy about the rubber feet and will probably replace those later. I'm sure they will help isolate some sound vibrations.

Here it is with one of the hard drive brackets removed. There is one on each side and they can hold two 3.5" HDDs each. When they are in place they do block putting in a fan or radiator in the front location on the cover's sides.

Here we are completely blown apart. This case is very easy to dismantle and is tool-less.

I'm pretty obsessed with my uAtx build.

I really wouldn't change a thing.

I had the HX620 from a previous build so I'm cheating on the cost target here. I picked the HX620 for its good reviews and because it's modular. It should have plenty of power for a micro build. The color goes well with the case and stealth look.

Nice 120mm fan that throttles depending on demand. This is a fairly quiet PSU.

The box unpacked. There is no shortage of connectors for this build. It even comes with a groovy bag to hold the PSU when you travel . Actually the little bag is nice to keep track of the connectors if they're needed later.

Wow, Ive always wanted to see a good mod with one of those Qmicra cases. They have always been too big for my tastes but Im looking forward to how this one will turn out.

Subbing, really like that case! I can't wait to see where this goes as I've always had a soft spot for micro builds.

Very nice, I just finished my first matx build in quite some time... it's an i5 though. I couldn't be happier with it.
