Intel 520 vs. my Opteron 144

Test setups:

AMD:
-Opteron 144, 1MB cache, 2.7GHz
-GSKILL 1GB DDR500 @ 245 MHz, 3-4-4-8-1T
-connect3D X800 GTO, 16 pixelpipes, 500 core / 560 memory

Intel:
-P4 520, 1MB cache, 2.8 GHz (Prescott)
-GSKILL 1GB DDR500 @ 200 MHz, 3-4-4-8-2T? (assumed to be put at default by mobo)
--connect3D X800 GTO, 16 pixelpipes, 400 core / 490 memory

Aquamark 3: It got a score of 56,000, and my computer usually gets about 77,000, give or take 2k.
Pi: it got 51s, I get 34s.
20,000 points difference. Consider however, the lower FSB, gfx clock speed, and looser/slower mem timings. Throwing all that in, I think it's fair to say Intel isn't quite as stinky farty smelly at gaming as some AMD fanboys say it is. Even I have completely shunned Intel, but seeing that result I don't think I'll be so hard on them.

I still pwn it at floating point ops.

Ummm yeah... what's your point? A comparable Intel is all of maybe 5% slower in gaming to a comparable AMD, the performance gap was never anything to write home about... My disgust with Pentium 4s and Pentium Ds lies solely in the fact that I could use one to heat my entire 2,500 square foot house. Which would be great in the winter, but sucks really hard in the summer...

Hmmm... if I converted to that CPU for winter gaming I could save some money on the gas bill

Yiffy: It's just that since I've been here really learning about computers, I've always been 'raised' on "AMD is better for gaming, better mem controller, Hyper transport, more ops per clock, runs cooler, OC's more.." But doing my own little run, I've learned for myslef that intels aren't as crappy as all that would make them sound.

Intels aren't crappy. period.
Each brand has a very slight plus and minus... and thats all I'm going to say about that!

What is the deal with Super PI? My 3000+oc'd to 2.5 is scoring better than P4's at 3.7. That tells me AMD is alot better is this area for sure.
Intel just flat out pwns super pi. the fastest intel 32m times beat the crap out of the fastest amd 32m times....that also goes for 1m all the way up to 32m. don't believe me? www.xtremesystems.org/forums

hah, won't go that far, but i will say that intel and amd both have their goods and bads. its just i've always had better skillz getting AMD's to run like they should, and intels' just don't make me feeel all warm and fuzzy (they make me feel hot and sweaty)...

that and an AMD can kick the crap out of Intel at a ton of benchmarks running the same/or lower speeds

Ladies and gentlemen, I belive you are also forgetting that even when an AMD and an Intel are running at identical clock speeds, with the same cache ane FSB, the AMD will be faster because it does more ops per cycle. Factor that into your arguments/debates.
