nForce4 or 955X, which would be best?

Hi all,

I'm going to double my RAM after Xmas but as all 4 of my DIMM slots are currently filled I have decided it's best to make the jump to DDR2 and get a better chipset motherboard while I'm at it.

I've already shopped around and am torn between the Asus 955X and Asus nForce4 SLI 16x. From what I can gather from their respective tech specs they both have the usual features SATA, RAID, 1066FSB, DDR2, Networking, etc.

Obviously the nForce4 has SLi which at least gives me the option of adding another card and it apparently has some sort of hardware firewall built in. However the 955X has some sort of fancy Intel memory controller. Which do you think would be the better purchase as they are both roughly the same price. Is this Intel memory controller thingy worth losing the option of SLi?

The 955x straight up if you want to overclock at all, the ONLY reason to get the NF4 is if you want SLI. Otherwise, I would definalty stick witha 955x, OR wait a bit till the 975x boards come out(very soon)

Cheers for the responce.

I'm still a little confused though. Just what makes the 955X so much better than the nforce4? Is it that fancy memory controller?

Better overclocker...more stable bios....a lot of people had problems with the NF4 boards.

Cheers for that. Looks like it's an Intel chipset for me then. I'll see if the 975X's are close to release in January and if not, settle for the 955X.

Sorry to highjack your thread, but when are the 975x motherboards getting to stores? I know at least gigabyte and I think ASUS have motherboards supporting it on there web sites. I am planning a new build soon and would love to be able to use a 975x board.

Thanks!! Your the first person who has given me any idea of when 975x and 65nm tech are coming out!

Excellent!

Right at the start of my second semesta too. My current motherboard isn't the best for overclocking, hopefully I'll be able to hit that sweet 4Ghz spot.

You should be able to get 4 GHz with out much trouble with a good board. My plan is to get one of the 65nm chips and go for 5!!

EDIT: Sorry, I know this is off topic, but what the heck is with your avatar???
