[Shacknews] Havok Launches Independent Developer Program

Quote:
Intel-owned middleware provider Havok today announced a program to attract indie and smaller developers by allowing them to prototype with the complete Havok suite for free.

The Independent Developer Program grants developers "unrestricted prototyping" with Havok's suite--which includes Havok Animation, AI, Behavior, Cloth, Destruction, and Physics--to evaluate all aspects before licensing those that suit their needs.
just noticed Intel owns Havok... means nVidia better make PhysX more than just a gimmick or it is going to die a fast death...

Intel has owned Havok for a very long time. But they do not interact with one another much.

While to the untrained eye this may seem like an act of kindness its really a counter measure to try and save pc gaming, others like crytec and even epic are getting in on this cause even if you refuse to believe it pc gaming is in trouble and company's like ati and intel know this and stand to loose a lot if they sit idly by

You have no idea what you're talking about.

With the exception of the ps3 who do you think makes the chips that go into consoles? I'll give you a hint, it's intel/amd/nvidia. Consoles also can make use of havok... so yea.. it's not a move to fight against consoles. What it is... is a move to try and keep physx from gaining market share.

Not only that, but Intel vs nVidia.

Also, Intel, AFAIK, dislikes proprietary software.

This means awesome in the next year or two, especially for ATI cards.
