With the exception of the ps3 who do you think makes the chips that go into consoles? I'll give you a hint, it's intel/amd/nvidia. Consoles also can make use of havok... so yea.. it's not a move to fight against consoles. What it is... is a move to try and keep physx from gaining market share.
I would think there is a lot more money to make from selling pc gaming hardware then there is making cpu's and gpu's for consoles, could be wrong but i really don't think i am.

This is more so a reaction to Intel canceling Larrabee. Reason why intel bought havoc is for physics to stay optimized for the CPU, and only use videocard acceleration when they get their own gfx card together. Now larabee is a done for, no use keeping the coding all to theirselves.

They should just make it free for non-profit use, and then free projects can use it without worry, and indie developers can try it out.

This article sucks. Why is there no link to the Havok press release or whatever the source was?

The CPU in all three consoles are made by IBM. The Wii and 360 run off a ATi GPU and the PS3 runs off a Nvidia GPU. Intel has nothing to do with the hardware at all.

Get infromed please, LRB is not done for, just delayed. Intel stated that they will deliver a discrete GPU card, but not the first iteration of LRB, as that will be used fot devs and HPC research.

Anyway it'll be interesting to see what happens the following months with Fermi, th new announcement of Intel and ATI =D I just hope to get some awesome stuff by 2011, when I'll officially get a new rig =P.

Also, Intel, AFAIK, dislikes proprietary software.
Unless its theirs.

Eg. The entire x86 architecture that should be open by now, that'd be great since either Intel would make a new architecture that is better than x86 or we'd get more manufacturers making x86 CPUs.

I am just wondering how do you apply, I saw the news posted on the Havok site but it doesn't really tell you how to apply for this program.

Personally, Havok has been free and usable for a while now, its just that they restricted what you could use, things like Havok AI wasn't given out. It also seems you can use havok in a indie game but once it comes to release, you have to pay some fee, I assume it'll be a okay priced fee or maybe now its based on what solutions you use from them....

They should explain this program some more.
