DVDRW drive recognized as CDROM Drive

Thread Starter
I don't know when this occured, but I can't read and DVD's on my NEC 3550A. I updated the firmware to the newest but in My Computer it says under "DVD-RW Drive" Cd-Rom Drive. The only drivers I can update to are CDRom drivers and I can't find any DVD drivers for this drive. Windows support proved no help of course. How do I make my drive be recognized as a dvd-rw drive??

what firmware did you upgrade to?... last time I checked necs site, 1.05 was the latest and if you bought the 3550a in the last couple months, it would already have 1.05 on it

its normal to see that in explorer, but you said its not reading dvds, thats a different problem... are the dvds burned dvds, movies, games, etc.?... are they different dvds or just all dvds will not read?

I never change those drivers unless theres a reason to... and looking at that screenshot, I see you still have the modded firmware... I say flash back to the 1.05 official firmware (http://support.necsam.com/optical/do...D3550_v105.exe), uninstall the 3550/ disconnect it, make sure the jumpers are set correctly, then reconnect everything and let xp auto install it... dont change anything, see what that does
