Meh, only on OCN. I've bought many products from them, never had one problem. From what I can tell, the only people who have a problem with them are the one who don't get what they want from the dumb webcast deal they do.

I am thinking about going w/a Tri SLI set up and using on of my 9800GT cards for PhysX. So with this in mind I was wondering what would be the differentc between the 1G flavors of the 9800GTX+, GTS 250 & the GTX260. I under the impression the 9800GTX+ and the GTS 250 are faster then the GTX260 but I'm also thinking I'm missing something here becuase the GTX260 cost's more. What am I missing here guys???

Thank you,

N2G

The GTX260 is better in many ways.

1. The GTX260 is based on the GT200 core, which is an improvement of the G92(b) core 9800GT, 9800GTX+, GTS 250 (9800GTX+ = GTS 250).

2. Memory size doesn't say everything, 512 MB will be sufficient up to resolutions as 1680x1050 (896 MB will be more than enough for HD gaming and enabling high AA)

3. The GTX 260 has 192/216 shader processors (depending on the version) where the 9800GT, 9800GTX+/GTS 250 have 112 and 128 respectively.

There are more reasons, but I think this is enough reason to pick up a GTX 260 instead of a GTS 250 .

Ah ok so there is more shaders in the GTX260 vs the G92 chiped GPU's and even though the G92 GPU's run at higher spd's all around core/shader/ram clocks the GTX 260 is still faster because it has a larger shader count.

Thank you

Yes that is all true, but in my opinion, the small increase in shader count vs price isnt worth it . I just bought 2 GTS 250's for SLI cheaper than one decent GTX260 and the 2 x GTS 250's should walk all over a single 260. I also plan to go tri-SLI in the future.

Well I may be able to get a few 9800GTX+ 1GB cards for less then $80.00 ea. so this is why I asked. I know 3 260's would walk all over 3 250's but by how much when in tri sli is the biggest question. After all tri SLI don't scale as well as regular 2 card SLI but it would still be a bit faster at the cost of more heat and electricity bills. Decissions decissions.

Will GTS 250 SLI walk all over the GTX260? In rough rendering power yes, but when you're gaming at 1920x1200 the memory bandwidth will become your greatest bottleneck (I've had 9800GTX+ SLI before ), the GTS 250 SLI will still have a higher maximum FPS, but they will have a lower minimum FPS than the GTX 260. By all means they will be faster than a single GTX 260, but it isn't worth the extra cash (not the case in your scenario).

I wouldn't bother with TRI-SLI, when you've got that much money to spend, either get a strong DX11 card like an HD5850/5870 or wait for Fermi. It's better to have a good single GPU setup rather than having two mediocre GPU's. It isn't worth the extra space, heat, noise and power requirements.

Well my biggest thing is knowing my mobo will do what I baught if for. Maybe some day eventually I will have 3xGTX285 or 3xGTX275 cards w/another PhysX card. In all honesty though you are right on getting one card for price vs performance vs heat vs noise.

I just like to have back up cards in the event one should die or start artifacting and w/a single card set up I would be screwed until I got a replacement card back from an RMA. I like to be able to limp along on one or two cards while RMA takes place. I don't intend to have any problems but sometimes these things are out of our control and it's best to have a good back up plan for when they do.

OP: You could use bing cash back with tiger direct as well. (8%)

As for tri-sli I wouldn't bother, but hey, I wouldn't bother with dedicated physX either.

Yeah, you've got a point there, I'm glad I still got my 9800GTX+ as a spare card. Now I can still game a little .
