i think after PCW'06, you'll have enough second opinions, if it says ES, its an ES

Try opening cpu-z or a similar program in the middle of a long superpi run.

Also cpuinfo read the cpu as an AMD Engineering Sample running at 803mhz
Well, if it were an ES, it would say something to extent of "Engineering Sample" or "ES" and it wouldn't have a serial number and would say instead "confidential" on the IHS. So it sounds just like the motherboard isn't recognizing it correctly... that's a very old Athlon 64, one of the first ever made, so I dunno what's up.
So it works correctly in the PC Chips board but not the ASRock board? Does it work in any other motherboards? It could just be that the chip is so old, the new motherboards don't work with it correctly. It's built around the very old C0 revision (idicated by the AP at the end of the OPN), and the manufacture date is 2003, so that's my best guess.

I have tried it in an Abit KV8Pro board and the results were the same(Engineering sample @ 803mhz) Has bios been altered on Pcchips board and heat spreader changed on cpu?

I paid £150.00p on e-bay for this cpu and motherboard bundle. Also performance-wise it is not far off my previous 3000 speed but it should be much better.
