PS3 will be good, but Sony is stupid to keep bashing their competition every 2 seconds for business.

I'm glad we understand each other.
One of the reasons I dont like Sony. No respect. Microsoft and Nintendo dont act like pouting children when they fail or are disapointed. PSP launch was totally overshadowed by the "inferior" DS so they bash it. Xbox360 has sold alot even with console bugs, they bash it..

If you change the resolutions on your monitor does it make the screen area any different? No it doesn't. What world do you live in? That shows how many pixels there are in terms of size. Would you rather have a small reslotion stretched upon a larger screen? or a higher one which fits easier?

Also just for facts.. you can get a 1080i 27" TV for only $450

Also I played a 360... on supposedly "HD" resolution... Why the heck where there jaggies all over the place.. the image quality on the 360 is very poor from the current games I have seen.

Well unless your very rich =(
This is exactly right, I believe. Broadcasters are NOT going to deliver 1080p broadcasts, probably ever. It takes twice the bandwidth and limits the viewing audience to the minority that have 1080p capable TVs. This is all exactly opposite of what broadcasters want to do, which is to get MORE advertisements in front of MORE viewers.

So for TV viewing purposes, the 1080p resolution is probabaly going to be upconverted from 1080i signals. Not that this is a bad thing, but it's not as dramatic as Sony would have us believe. The difference will be the same as watching a DVD on a standard DVD player (480i) vs. a progressive scan DVD player, which upconverts to 480p.

For gaming purposes, a 1080p image should be better than a 1080i one. It depends on whether the game is delivering full 1080p frames or if it is just depending on the TV to upconvert from 1080i. Regeardless, though, I don't think I could justify the extra expense to get a 1080p capable TV just for games, it's just to darn much money. Maybe if I won the lottery, but otherwise, forget it.

Hey keep on the floor where you need to be while your laughing. Now.. What I meant by that is say you are playing a movie and its 480x320 as a example. you have your resolution at 1024x768. Then you switch it to 1280x1024. Now the movie is even smaller. That is what I meant by it. Now, continue rolling.

Edit: Also, that is the game makers fault. Its not like resolution is everything. CSS at 800x600 will look better than a older game at 1600x1200 (given you dont pick one thats maybe a year old or so). Game makers need to shift from regular tv to HDTV. I do not think they know what they are able to do quite yet.

i dont see what the big deal is here, ps3 will be compatible with all hd resolutions, and if you want the 1080p, then you can spend a ton and get it. Its like Sli, not that great of a performance increase for the money you pay, but you spend the money to get THE BEST possible thing you can get.

How is Sony not fully utilizing HD?? If anything it would be the consumer not fully utilizing it. If you have the highest model tv, you will be able to play games with a PS3 at the highest resolution for your tv. If you have a lower model tv, you will play at a different level of HD. I fail to see how sony is at fault here.

Is it possible that at higher levels of HD ( 720p and 1080i ), consoles could eventually have framerate drops ?

As far as I know, since higher resolutions off the console will have the same affect as running higher resolutions on your computer, more pixels to draw.

And just because the PS3 "supports" 1080p doesnt mean that it renders at 1080p...it could render everything at 720p and just scale it up to 1080p.
Very nice!
