Low Budget Gaming PC Build < NEED HELP!

Thread Starter
I'm currently running an old AMD 3700+ @ 2.9GHz, 1GB of Crucial Ballistix and a 7600GT. I've been looking to upgrade my computer as it can no longer handle newer games.

CPU: Intel Pentium E5200 Wolfdale 2.5GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor (64.50)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116072

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard (129.99)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128358

RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit (95.99)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231193

PSU: Thermaltake TR2 W0070RUC 430W ATX12V V2.2 Intel Core i7 Compliant Dual 80mm Fans (36.99)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153023

HD: Western Digital Caviar Blue WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive (49.99)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136074

CPU Cooler: ZALMAN 9500A 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler (42.98)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118223

Thermal Compound: Arctic Silver 5 (6.99)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835100007

Total: 427.43

I went with the E5200 as it's very cheap and from what I've read, you can overclock the hell out of it. I'm still iffy about the Mobo as it's quite expensive. Maybe someone can suggest another board that's cheaper but still reliable and good for overclocking? I will be getting a free EVGA 8800GTS 320MB from a friend (http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16814130082). I will also be using my old Sonata II case for the computer.

That motherboard does not support DDR3. It supports DDR2, so find a good kit (a Corsair DDR2 800 4Gb kit would work nicely) and put it in the cart.

There are much better CPU coolers out there around that price point that absolutely trounce the Zalman, especially if you're going to OC really high. If you can afford it, get the Prolimatech Megahalem and buy a fan with it (it doesn't come with one, and I'm not sure which fan to recommend).

If you can't afford it, get a Scythe Mugen 2 for the cooler. This does come with a fan.

For the PSU, I'd advise to spend a bit more, in your price range you could get the Corsair 400CX or a Rosewill PSU.

Otherwise, it's fine for a really tight budget, although I would consider AMD because AM3 motherboards have an upgrade path to a 6 core CPU in the future.

Good luck!
THANKS, GUILT1!

i advise to get a quad core since they arnt expensive anymore, and most newer games are threaded for up to 4 cores. hint hint Q6600

If it's for a budget build why not look into something like this: http://www.ncixus.com/products/?sku=...s&promoid=1065

It has most of the overclocking settings you'd need and if you pair the 5200 with the mugen 2 or a xiggy you'll be good to go. As HoldYrPistlstr8 said, definitely pick up a good ddr2 800 kit.

wouldn't it be better to get a different board that supports DDR3 though? i thought DDR2 was out of date. also, the Prolimatech Megahalems seems awesome. i shall be searching for a suitable fan. and what would be a good AMD set up?

i thought u wanted a budget comp , DDR2 still good, sure it wont be a highend 5000 dollar rig, the mobo u have can support up to 1333 MHz ram which is fast for your needs, wont need more than that i believe, unless your will be doing alot of video editing /rendering ect.

DDR2 is just as fast as DDR3 and tends to have tighter timings.

I'll do a cart later for AMD
