reinstall WoW or not?

Thread Starter
hi guys,

I am going to install my Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit for a clean install because now iam running windows xp 32bit and I was thinking of just copy the world of warcraft folder to my external drive and put it back on the clean install and hopefully it works.

I think it works because my friend also took the world of warcraft folder and plugged it in on an other PC and it just worked.

What is your advice about it or should I just reinstall the complete game again (wich takes about 2 hours.....)

Wow can be transferred like that but I wouldn't chance it across different OS's. Especially with a jump from 32-bit to 64-bit. I'd just go ahead and reinstall it to be safe. Even though I know how big a of a pain in the butt it is.

While I was playing, I always transferred my copy by simply copying the folder, much faster.

EDIT: There is no reason not to try, if it doesn't work, you can always reinstall. But I believe it will.

It would work. but why not just go ahead and reinstall it? fresh install is always better.

It will work fine as you have suggested. I have had no problems with that at all. Although I know a recent patch update, prior to 3.3 I patched and it broke the .exe file. I reinstalled to resolve, my friend googled the problem and had to allow something admin permissions to get his to work.

Either way, copying will work!

It will work ,did it a couple of times. But i think a fresh copy will be better , since you are going from 32 to 64 bit system. Also it's quite fast to reinstall it anyways, compared to the WOW+Tbc reinstall , just don't forget to copy your patches and addons (screens maybe too? )

It should work fine. The only problem is with patching. You have to stick the patchers in the root WoW folder, because there are no registry entries to point it to the location. If you try to run it from any other location, it'll tell you this patch was not made for this version (very misleading -- it actually just can't find WoW.exe).
