Raid 0 burst speed slower?

Thread Starter
Hi i just put together my first Raid 0 with 2 WD Caviar SE16 Sata 2 hard drives that have ncq, when i first got them i didnt have my raid card ( which is a promise fasttrak 2300 which is sata2 and ncq compatible ) i plugged my hard drives indevidualy into the sata ports on my computer and ran hd tach on them they hard burst speeds of 200MB/s with around a 55MB/s average read then after i configured them into raid 0 format they have a burst speed of average 105MB/s burst speed at 85MB/s read?????? whats up with this on neweggs site a guy gave a review of getting 300MB/s burst speed with these puppies what am i doing wrong.

i have tried different stripe sizes but no changes
the only thing i can think of is that it is somthing to do with my raid controller and it being in a pci slot insted on just on the motherboard?

im not sure of the exact MB i have becase it is a OEM MB that came in a computer given to me. thanks

Your RAID controller should be on the motheboard, not on a card. Get a new mobo with SATAII onboard if you want more speed.

so the controller card in the pci slot is bottlenecking my raid?

can anyone suggest a mother board that has support for d830,pci-e, ddr2, sata2 raid, and atleast 3 pci slots?
