My CPU temp... high or what...

Thread Starter
I got a P4 550 (3.4GHz 775) Until reading the earlier thread I thought my temps were ok. I idle at 67 C and load around 83 C, no OC. That damn heatsink that intel gives you is a bugger to put on. I used the cheap CompUSA thermal paste. Do you think it is the stock intel heatsink, or something else. What kind of temps should I expect. I have 4 80mm fans and a exhaust fan in my case...

Its probably not seated correctly. Try taking it off and reseating it. Even with stock hsf it shouldn't be that high.

My graphics card is currently being replaced by MSI, so I only have the labtop. I took off the Heatsink and cleaned it, same with the processor. I will probably hit compusa and buy come ArticSilver... I heard that was some good stuff. Those darn 775 intel heatsinks are just very difficult to install.

I concur with Steveo, however I would like to add one thing: be careful when reseating the heatsink.
When you install it back press on the pins in a diagonal manner to make sure pressure is equally applied to both sides of the cpu.
Also make sure you turn all 4 pins back to their original orientation before re-installing the heatsink otherwise they will immediately break as the white legs won't go into the mobo.
I know you probably read the manual but just in case you missed out on a detail, or you don't have it then you can get it at http://www.intel.com/support/process.../CS-012539.htm

Good luck !

wow 67C idle
Mine barely hit 50C on 4ghz full load,5xx and 6xx series are very different in heat degrees tho. AS5 and a new HSF would help.
