Should I even worry about cooling? (or OCing all together)

I've built my system now and you can check it out from the specs below. I know not much of my stuff is top of the line but I got it done cheap. I started upping the FSB and everything was going well until I hit a wall around 916mhz (3.20ghz). System was pretty stable, but was giving wierd Sandra scores (sometimes lower than 3.11ghz, sometimes higher, etc) and it crashed on Aquamark on the second try. So I went to try to up my Vcore and I seem to have hit a wall.

People talk about setting their Vcore in their BIOS by actually inputting a voltage. I don't seem to have that option. I do have the the following option for voltage:

+25mvs
+50mvs
+75mvs

I played with the settings to no real effect. I've got an ECS mobo, is that holding me back from adjusting my Vcore enough to overclock any more?

I'm running 34C idle temps and 45C full load temps even at 3.25ghz on air so I know temp isn't a problem. I'm considering upgrading my cooling for a higher OC, but I'm not going any higher, I dont think I need it.

I used to have an ecs but I replaced it with an abit. The ecs just wasn't running stable and I don't think they make great motherboards for ocing. As for the vcore option I have no idea. It looks like you;re increaing the vcore with mv, wich is 0,025v (or any of the other three) at a time. Why don't you use cpuz to check out the vcore, then adjust it in the bios and use cpuz again to see if its changed??

Normal setting Vcore = 1.248v
+75(highest in BIOS) Vcore = 1.296

That's not very much adjustability, is it?

mm thats odd, are shure you're at the vcore sttings then?

Why don't you check the manual first? But even if you find it watch out, ecs produces good stable motherboards for a low price, they run fine but their not great oc-boards.

Ya I don't think ecs boards are usually good overclockers, you may be able to get more out of it, but maybe not. I'm not too familiar with the bios on those boards so I can't help you there. But one thing to remember about temps, they can still be a problem even if they're well below specs. What I mean is, the cooler it is, the more stable it runs, period. If you had some extreme cooling, you'd probably be able to get a stable oc where someone who had totally acceptable temps like yours, may not.

For example, on my second rig, 2.8 P4 Northwood, with a decent cooler I was getting pretty good load temps of about 46C, but I couldn't reach 3.4GHz no matter what I did. Then I put on an even better heatsink that brought me down to about 41C full load, then I could reach 3.4Ghz. So sometimes, that few degrees makes all the difference, even if you're not anywhere near max recommended temperatures. Unfortunately, I had to give up that heatsink for my gf's computer, so now I can only reach about 3.25GHz again, even though I'm less than 50C full load. Sometimes it needs more voltage or whatever of course, but temp is a big piece of the puzzle usually. Maybe someone with your board can help you with your bios settings, good luck .
