Mushkin 996601 vs Kingston KHX1800C8D3K2/4G

Hi pals,
I'm currently building my new rig. I just received ny 955 (c2 stepping) and my Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P (rev 1.0). For RAM I chose the Mushkin 996601 because of its tight timing. I was hoping to get 6-6-6-18 @ 1600 from them. However this RAM is BO almost everywhere, including from where I ordered them. Now, I was looking for a replacement RAM that could fit my needs : will fit under my CPU cooler (OCZ Gladiator Max), able to do 6-6-6-18 @ 1600 and below 150 $CAD.

For now, the only RAM I've found that seems to be near this is the Kingston HyperX KHX1800C8D3K2/4G, which runs at 8-8-8-24 @ 1800. NCIX sells these at 129$CAD. I know the reputation of Kingston. They make solid RAM but from past experiences they seems to have less overclocking headroom than Mushkin or GSkills.

So, should I wait for the Mushkin or get the Kingston that is in stock. Or if you got any other suggestion. As long as I can reach the magic 3x6-18 @ 1600 or 3x5-15 @ 1333 that would be ok with me.

Those Kingston sticks should serve you well.

I know they can do 1600mhz Cas 7 or 1333mhz Cas 6.

You are running an AMD System, and a C2 stepping Phenom II so I would suggest you stay with 1333mhz and tighten down the timings as much as you can.

As Phenom II's only natively support 1333mhz right now, so you will have better success with 1333mhz Cas 6 or Cas 5 than you will 1600mhz Cas 6.

Also do note, that 1333mhz Cas 6 & 1600mhz Cas 6 run almost identical in real world, and synthetic benchmarks.
The real performance boost to have on AMD Systems is a high Northbridge clock.

My Mushkin 996629 [which I believe is really similar to the 996601] can do 1600mhz 8-8-8-24 1.95v or 1333mhz 6-6-6-24 1.9v [yes, the voltages for these are quite high.] I run 1333 since it's more stable and might even be able to tighten the voltages more from this. I'm going to get new RAM sticks [DDR3-1333] that like you, will fit under the CPU cooler [the only ones I can find that will fit are OCZ ones], enabling a future 8GB upgrade for me [I also wouldn't use two different RAM kits due to possibly instability, which is why when the OCZ ones come in, the Mushkins have gotta go].
DDR3-1333 at 6-6-6-18 should be mostly adequate, and if you were going to try 1600 at 6-6-6-18 I don't think it will work due to the nature of the Phenom II internal memory conroller.
NB clock up from 2000 to 2600mhz though [though going higher is possible, it doesn't give anymore performance from there] will certainly improve your RAM performance
At 2600mhz you will most likely need to boost your NB voltage though.
