BIOS not detecting HDD for RAID

Thread Starter
Ok jsut got all my stuff setup and want to get a frsh OS on a new RAID array but I go into my BIOS to enable the IDE RAID (using 2 EIDE 160GB drives) save the BIOS and they don't show up. It says it supports IDE RAID but I'm thinking that it might not do EIDE RAID but it's got an IDE RAID controller???

Does anyone know what else to do or do no motherboards support regualr IDE HDDs for RAID

WOuld need ASAP as the comp is running and dont want to spend all day on it...thanks.

Also if I need EIDE RAID drivers that would be nice, but i'll search for them in the mean time

Update the raid drivers and see if that helps...what configuration are you trying to use Raid 0+1...i.e. stripe or mirror

Try setting up windows, at the first steps of windows it will ask you if you want to install a 3rd party or raid driver, usually you have to copy this from your mobo cdrom to a floppy, or if you run dual cdroms possibly from the other cdrom drive.

you hit F6 to install the raid driver, if windows sees the drives it will allow you to set up the array. Go for Raid 0 (striped) if it allows you. If it doesn't go into bios and disable the ide controller, then try again. I'll be on and off today so let me know if it worked.

And yes setting up raid the first few times can be funky, don't feel bad i been doing this 20 years and my first time was a nightmare of epic proportions lol. Be sure to defrag after set up, after you get all your fav apps installed, a fragmented Raid array will slow you down Big.

The Drivers would probably be at the ASUS website, thats how it is with DFI atleast.

And if your using them to boot you will need to use a floppy or a ISO most likely.

On single floppy drive systems the A: drive should be A:, but if it's asking for B: most times bios will handle it and go into the floppy any way. Go ahead and try it and see if the disk reads. If not go ahead into bios and look for the section drives are set up in. The first page of bios should show you what the floppy is set up as.
