Might switch back to intel..

Thread Starter
I was going through outpost's website looking at watercooling, and this was on the front page.

http://shop1.outpost.com/product/4545957

Its a P4 630 (3.0 gig) LGA 775 processor
ECS 915P-A mobo.

for 199.99

I have right now

AMD 64 2800+ (1.8 gig) S754 processor
DFI lanparty NF3 250gb UT

If i get this, will i see any big difference in preformance? and if so will it mean better gaming seeing that it has a 2 mb cache (mine only has 512kb)

No, you wont see much preformance gain, actually you might see a preformance loss... Heck, that ECS motherboard wont OC and the processor will have a hard time keeping up with your 2800+ @ 2.2. Yes, there is a big L2 cache difference, but you should spend the extra money on a s939 motherboard and processor.. and upgrade in the future..

From what I've read, the 915 intel chipset isn't usually a good overclocker, and I don't think ecs boards are really that good for oc'ing either. I think some people get good oc's from them, but other don't. Good processor though, with the right mobo and memory, and some good cooling, you'd probably get a nice oc from that cpu. I just don't know about that mobo though.

I googled the board, it does have good benchmark scores. and the boot: it has BOTH PCI-E and AGP, and DDR AND DDR2 support! http://www.bytesector.com/data/bs-ar...?ID=326&page=1

He's right, my 915PL won't get past the POST if I raise the FSB higher than 221.

I would just upgrade the cpu in the mother board you have, 3700 newark 1meg cache, mine runs 2.95ghz 24/7, and can play any game out there.
