Take a chill pill. Audio is supposed to be one of the more low key areas of the site.

I would consider myself the owner of pretty good equipment and I consider myself to have pretty good ears. However, I do make the conscious decision to use V0 MP3s for storage reasons. Everything in audio is a tradeoff - I (and I suspect many other members) will knowingly give up a little bit of quality in favor of increased storage capacity and more broad acceptance from a standards viewpoint.

The process of burning any audio to CD necessarily included a decoding to WAV - compressed information must be decompressed prior to being used for anything. He was not technically incorrect.

ehh, im a musician. storage doesnt matter to me. what matters is hearing the best quality that i can, is that so bad. why do people like to always bash on FLAC, it is far superior to MP3

yeah they are fairly decent. you wouldnt know. my home stereo is a lot better than my car, but they both sound awesome

It sorta depends on the equipment but at the end of the day you need to know what to listen for to compare. That said i can tell the difference between a 320mp3 file and a wma-lossless file on my zune with even Jvc Marshmallows. (Blind Tested)
On my home-rig i can immediately tell the difference. Btw I'm not trying to be a troll or anything like that, if you believe you cant tell the difference that's good for you but i can.

I honestly can't understand how you can "hear" the difference using $90 JBL speakers....in a car nonetheless. I mean cars have a LOT of noise just driving down the road in general, how could you possibly hear a little tiny bit of static caused by mp3 use?

It sounds to me more like you have cabling issues, more than you have a problem with the mp3's. Perhaps a better head unit, maybe even one with a direct iPod connection to it might be in your future?

You could also have bad signal wires going to the amp, might be too close to power lines, speaker wires could be picking up interference, there's TONS of things that can cause issues in car audio. Don't be blaming the mp3 just because you seem to be having some issues.

I honestly can't tell the difference in a car between mp3 and flac. I can tell the difference on my new home stereo though. And keep in mind, I had a $12,500 system in my car at one point....MUCH more high end than those $90 JBL's you bought .
