crazy overclock problem on a celeron D

Thread Starter
I'm using a 2.53ghz (soon to be replaced) intel celeron D prescott core cpu on a brand new asus P4S800D-X overclocking enabled motherboard. The CPU's operating frequency (FSB) is 133mhz (x4). With manual cpu frequency setting enabled, I can only set the fsb up to 119 before the system refuses to boot due to "overclocking error". At 119mhz fsb, my processor only runs at 2.26ghz, way lower than 2.53ghz. With auto cpu frequency enabled, the system runs fine and stable at 133mhz fsb, 2.53ghz clock speed. Any idea what's going on?

EDIT: I just tried again, and now I can up the bus speed to 159 with no apparent problems. Weird, eh?

Yup, its all in the bios, fool around with it some more you should be able to get that CPU to almost 3.0 with stock cooling and good case venting. Ive overclocked my 2.53 to 2986.1mhz with software only(stock compaq PC) with an MSI board. I just put a 2.8 celey D in my other computer and have maxxed out the FSB in bios(166x21) for a clock of 3485.6 on stock air with a 92mm side case fan. Its stable as a rock after 12 hours of Prime95 running at 55.C this CPU has alot more left in it but my PSU is giving way to anything above that. although the celey's dont run near as fast as the P4's they can overclock very nicely.

Yeah, I've managed 3.02ghz in a naked case, but it idles around 60C.... stock cooling. ANd the multiplier is 19, no? How'd you get 21? Sorry if I'm sounding kind of noob, because, well, I am noob.

And 166 was what I was shooting for, but it wouldn't boot past 159 >.>

EDIT: okay, nevermind, I get it. You were talking about your 2.8, not your 2.5

yeah the multiplier is different, dotn remember what the 2.53 is but I think your right. Idle temps of 60.C?? Ouch thats way to hot somethings not right there. Mine was ideling at around 34.C in windows at 2.9 and 60 under prime95 for 5 hours
