OK just bought a I7 960/DO,I upgraded from my 920/DO...man this chip is amazing.It even has multiplier up to 24,so looks like 26/25/25/25 with turbo enabled.I set cpu/volt to 1.3 and baby clock all the way up to 4.3...I almost got it to 4.4,of course on my liquid loop.I prime95 at 4ghz for an hour,its ok.Since I just put the chip in i stopped for a bit,but tomorrow ill try to stress test at 4.1 to 4.3.Im sure im gonna have to tweak in bios,but very happy with this chip.

Im assuming its the I7 965 extreme chip,because in my eleet ocing utility the chip is named I7 965,but cpuz sees it I7 960.Im feeling they did that because they lost sales on the 965 since the I7 975 came out and since there the same price peeps buying the 975.

Before I rant, understand that a forum is defined as, "a place, meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged" (Webster, 2008). This being said, I'd like to exchange my view on this issue. This was a waste of money. I mean no disrespect, but your speeds are just as comparable to my $200 i7 920. The chips are identical in every way, albeit the differences in the multiplier. Whereas the Phenom II 965 has few changes that make it different in properties from the 955, the i7 920 and i7 960 are null in their differences. We're here to teach, for the most part, price to performance and how to get the best overclock and system performance increases. These purchases fuel Intel to drive prices up on mediocre bumps in speed. With this chip, bragging rights do not exist.

I wish you the best with your OC, but staying with the 920 is more cost effective with identical performance.

Since I do not overclock for gaming,I wanted the best chip for my gaming.The 920 is only at 2.66 so this is a big jump to 3.2.I do play my games for hours so i want them at the best stock speeds I can have.Now,theres no need for you to be negative and bash my chip and rain on my parade.I was happy with my results since i couldnt get my 920 past 4.0 stable.Im feeling after i spend some time on this i might be able to get this chip past 4.5 maybe 4.6,we will see.

He wasn't bashing your chip as much as preaching some common since

That 960 might be worth it for oh hey look at how fast my cpu is

But the real world performance compared to the 920 isn't...at least in gaming

Are you trying to tell us that you run the processor at stock when gaming? you want to run your games at the best stock speeds you can?

Am i missing something?

+1 man. Bought my 950 for the same reasons you bought the 960. No one seems to get it though. Congrats, it really does add some headroom and make for more stable oc's. Have fun.

Um yes you heard me right,i dont overclock for gaming.I keep my cpu/gpus at stock speeds,so that I dont overheat since I do game for hours at a time,why should I oc for gaming im up to 600 fps in cod4 at stock speeds,I do overclock for benching,Now since I still have my 920/do,when the I9 comes out ill sell both and get the i9 extreme chip.

Its been proven that an i7 at 2Ghz compared to one at 4Ghz makes little to no difference in gaming.
(given the games tested, and the settings used in the tests, it was linked on here a week or so ago)
So, one could say that anything over 2Ghz is plenty... (says the guy at 4.5 ) but then, we wouldnt be here if it was ever enough
