Kind of a dumb question

Thread Starter
...but I get paranoid, and gotta make sure. A motherboard that is listed as using DDR2 800 support will use slower DDR2 ram such as 667 right? I always see this question asked in reverse so I'm kinda confused.

Extra question: Since Prescotts only have 800 fsb, would it make more sense to just stick with slower DDR2 that is closer to a 1:1 ratio? Is it more practical, performance and costwise, to just go with DDR2 533 over DDR2 677/800 as my overclocked processors fsb(17 x 232 and climbing) would match closest with DDR2 533(262)?

-mahalo.

First off all their inst something like a stupid question

The ram wil probably work but you might check out the spec or the manual just to be on the safe side.

LOL, very true.

Boinky: go with the fastest ram you can afford. It used to be true that 1:1 gives the best performance, but now that DDR2 has some really high speeds, you will see increased memory bandwidth with faster ram speeds. Most DDR2 boards offer 4:5 and 1:2 dividers, which really bump up the ram speed.
