Trying my first overclock..

Thread Starter
OK guys I am new to this forum, I already posted a thread in the new members section and people have been really nice to me .. so I'll now get down to business.
I have an MSI NX7800gtx card, I recently learned about coolbits and how to activate it. I am though a real noob in overclocking I have never overclocked anything in the past so I want to be really cautius (loosing this card may really mean forgetting my pc for about a year lol). As I see the stock speeds are 430/1.2
Do any of you have any ideas of some good speeds I might oc to? I also have to mention that I have zalman cooling on it and my idle temp is about 43 which as I read is prettyy good...
Thank u in advance

well what you need to know will be in the link below http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/2608...hics-card.html

i dont think you need to overclock that card anyway it is wast enough but overclocking it would make it a monster of a card so check out the link

Ye, first of all the link. Second of all, i agree with enzo, thats one HECK of a fast card! I doubt youll need to oc it for sometime.
But since u got that zalman... hehe might as well
to summarize that link for you, open coolbits or rivatuner, whichever you use, and simply start raising the clock speeds little by little. Then bench your card with for example 3dmark05. As you overclock, your score will keep on climbing. Then, when you went too much, you'll see little flickering dots and points on your screen, and your 3dmark05 score will start falling. WHen you get there, back your settings down liiiitle by liiiitle, until you get to the place where you stop having artifacts (the flickering dots) and have yourself an overclocked monster! Once you get the hang of that, you'll no doubt be tempted to go further... Thats what im doing. I started having artifacts about 20mhz or so ago core-speed wize. Didnt stop me. Made some homemade cooling, as you can see over here: http://www.overclock.net/case-mods-g...-spectrum.html

With all of the above, i have my card relatively stable at 439/1185.
The stock was 350/1000. And this isnt with any special zalman cooler, this is with just stock cooling the card came with. With ur zalman i could have no doubt hit 470 - 1200ish !

Btw, to let you know how much of an impact overclocking can have, i used to score 4865 in 3dmark05 without overclocking at stock speeds, and i now score 6006 with ONLY my card overclocked. When i get my big typhoon cpu cooler, i have my sights on 7000!
