winnie 3000 wall @ 2350

Thread Starter
HI, ive been hitting a wall when I try to reach anything over 2350. My comp runs stable 24 hours on prime and 32m pi test. But as soon as I lower my Htt to 3x instead of 4 and up my fsb to anything over 250 i can get through a cycle of 1m pi test. When i lower the htt to 3x my ram is running at 166 which should be stable because i can get it up to 210 without problems. And ive tested my fsb speed up to fsb up to 290. I dont know why im failing these. Ive tried uping the voltage to my ram to 2.9 and loosening the timings but it stills fails. Please give me some ideas on why im hitting the wall.

put ya htt multi at 3x, slow ya ram to 166 or even 133, put ya vcore up just a tad (.025) for a start, ya ram should be fine running at stock volts because it should be going relatively slow for now, start upping ya htt (fsb) and see how far ya get, 3000+ winnies become power hungry and get hot at higher overclocks but you should be able to get at least 2500 on air, watch ya temps, if i was running air trying to do an oc today it would be hopeless because its 38c and the case ambient is 48c- its all got to do with temps so what are yours? make sure you are using a bios that doesnt have known issues with your cpu.

fyi, I have a problem with ht stability at anything less than 800, thats why I don't personally drop the ht multiplier until I hit 267 htt.

my temps are fine. running about 35 idle and 42 under full load. I just installed the big typhoon last night and the zalman 700 for my vga. I know that I need to drop down my Htt to 3x when going over 250 fsb because it intereferes with the max hyper threading. But i have my voltage to my cpu max at 1.55 and i had the vdimm at 2.9 and it was still failing. I dont want to push my voltage up even higher. Im just confused as to why neigher of my parts are close to their max and its starting to fail stability tests. If i could get to 2.5 i would be happy with that. Temps shouldn't be a problem at that. If they are I'm probably going to run out and get some as5 and see how much a difference it makes from the crappy stuff that came with the typhoon. Im using the most current asus bios, so i dont know if it has a problem with the winnie 3000, where would I look this up at?

its okay to run over 1000 on the hyper transport link... just nothing excessive. Try running 267 x 9 and a 3x multiplier for the ht link, and see if it'll run stable. How high a clock have you tried?

Yea i did just that. 267, 3x and 9x for my multiplier. It boots up fine but it fails super pi before the first loop. I dont know why im having these stability issues if nothing is near the max.

There is nothing to be gained from OC'ing the HTT bus ... keep this under 1000 for a 939 Skt CPU and you will be fine.
A likely cause could be CPC make sure that it is set to 2T for this MB, and recehck the memory timings --- run memtest #8 for 5-10 times for any system change, be this HT, timings etc to be sure that Mem is OK... this does not mean it will be 100% in Windows but is a starting point.
Also the fact that you are now at Max Vcore will indicate that the CPU may need more to go faster. Better cooling will help you a bit further with that max'd out Vcore.

well i just threw the max vcore at it from the start, dont know if it was good or bad. Im running 2300 stable at 43 degrees under full load. So im guessing I should be able to hit 2500 and still be able to keep it under 50 load. Yea, ive never done a memtest before loading up the os. So i guess ill start doing that. Is it normal that on a 4x multiplier the memory can go to 210 but on a 3x multiplier only go up to 165ish. I just dont know what is causing it to fail. Im guessing its the memory because its the crappiest part of my setup. What ram would u recomend for my setup.
