[XBit] AMD Readies Phenom II Processors for Mobile Computers for May Launch. - Page 3

the N830 looks like a good all round chip, if only there was a way to keep them cool enough for overclocking so it could reach 3ghz you would have a very good gaming notebook when paired with a ATI gpu but i will still reserve my judgement on these chips till they are released.

yes, i know. but look at the wikipedia list.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...icroprocessors

its basically a turion 2 M520, but 25w not 35. notice how the only difference if the model number, P520 ? M i would assume was mobile, P = phenom ?

with any luck this will be just like AM2-AM3, that is the new 45nm processors will be compatible with the 65nm sockets.

Why compare it to Intel extreme edition ?

i7 720QM which cost $360 is probably faster than PII X920BE.

The other Tri-core and Quad core have low clock speed, not to mention that they lack L3 cache. Intel can easily compete with those even with hyperthreaded dual core

Is that Turion II P520 real? It has 5MB cache at 25W?! Too bad these won't come out on AM3. I would love one of those 35W Turion IIs for my HTPC.
HAS TO BE TYPO. Probably 45 watt. Or they meant 512k per core instead of 5mb.

Those mobile Phenoms don't have L3 cache. They are already similar to desktop version of Athlon II

We will see.

Don't forget though, they have 2 big things that hurt our chances of seeing good laptop chips. The first is that they don't measure power the way Intel does, AMD measures what the average power draw is, while Intel uses the maximum the chip will draw for their calculations. This is how the standard AMD 25 or 35 watt chip will draw tons more power then Intels 25/35 watt chips.

The second issue is that since AMD is at the low end, they have to go with manufacturers willing to skimp on quality to achieve the low price point.

Ooh didn't notice that.

But to me, the Phenom II P920 @ 1.6GHz, 25W looks most tempting and interesting. I wonder if these could come cheap, maybe at current Intel T6600 price.
