6600GT IDLES AT 71c!?!?!?!?!?!?

Thread Starter
I dont know what the deal is, my eVGA 6600GT idles at 71c and loads at about 100-120c and its not even overclocked, stock cooling. Is there some reason for this? Does this happen often in eVGAs or is mine just effed up?

Check to make sure the fan is spinning and that the fins are not clogged up with dust.

Did you ever take the cooler off and re-install it or have someone else do it for you? If not I would RMA it because that's just way too hot.

Hm, Check the dust then, how fast is it spinning? Does the fan/cooler seem to be falling off the card?

I just cleaned out the dust and it brought it down to 67-68c.....i pulled the fan off once cause i was gonna get aftermarket, but ended up not getting it so put stock back on. It seems snug though.

i would reseat the fan with some new thermal paste and clean the old stuff. it should load in the high 60's low 70's without overclock, not idle in the 60's.

yeah definatley needs new thermal paste or at least reseeated.

Is underclocking bad for them, or could i drop the core and memory 25-50 to keep it cooler until i get some paste?

yeah that may be good, I have the same card and I overclocked and am getting 52 C idle and around 70 C load. Definately get some new paste for that.
