Need a proccesor identifed

Thread Starter
I recently got a hold of a big stash of compontents...every thing you can think of. Most every thing I can identify as interesting junk, but I think I may have diamond in the ruff here. I don't have a board to fit it or I would just throw a machine together quick to identify it.

The CPU has the Stamp:

INTEL '03
PENTIUM 4
2.80HZ/1M/800
SL7J5 MALAY
Q434A330

I am pretty sure that means it is a 2.8 P4 with a 1 MB L2 and 800 HT, but I'd like to know what core it may have and if it is a mobil cpu or what not.

And to be honest...I am a AMD guy (don't attack me here, first machine I built was an AMD and I just stuck with them...now I know them pretty darn well) and I can't even tell what kind of a socket this cpu is.

If any can help me out here I may even build my first real Intel based machine

Is there any sites that I can put in serial numbers off of Intel CPUs and get their specs? I have a few older cpus that I would not might knowing more about before I try to OC the puke out of 'em.

Prescott is the core.

Does the CPU have pins? If yes then it is a s478 If it has holes in the cpu it is lga775.

EDIT:::: I think it is LGA775

Here is the page where I found this.

It's either a Pentium 4 E Prescott pga478 or a Pentium 4 520 lga775.

Well if the back looks like that

That's a socket 478 .

And if the back looks like that

Then that's a SOCKET LGA 775 .

hmm while we are talking abot the two sockets...is one better than the other? The whole idea of a CPU with no pins is kind of alien to me, but at the same time...wow, no chance of bending a pin.

But does it still work ok?

I've doing my home work on it and the P4 520 Prescott sounds like a decent CPU and I think I will build a machine arround it (I am sure now that what this CPU is)

Man, what kind of ''junk'' do you have, because so far it looks like pretty good junk.

The lga775 chips [you have] definately overclock better and also accept DDR2 and have more PCI-E supported motherboards. All the info I needed was SL7j5. That is the code you can plug into Intels proc finder site. I linked it in my first post. It has lots of good info on the CPU. You should be able to hit 3.5ghz no problems with that chip. Just pick a good mobo, Good ram and Good HSF. Then you should have a decent rig.

I got hooked up by a friend...a local hospital upgraded there computers a few months ago and they were seriously going to SEND IT TO THE LAND FILL!!!

Now...I am all about recycling and I sweet talked my friend (She is the nursing supervisor of the whole campus) into pulling a favor for me and letting me get the stuff. After I got the OK to get it I offered to build at least a dozen machines to donate to the special education department...and maybe a few more than that. I didn't realize how much stuff I was going to get, but I don't think this would be needed for that purpose. Not to mention I'd have to buy a mother board for it. So, I think I will keep it for my self

So far every other CPU has been a 1.0 P3...save for this one. I am wondering if this was what was upgraded to and got put in the "misc boxes" by mistake...oh well.

I got to go back to my digging

Ha, well I do that same thing except I get my rigs from the street on trash day and go trash digging then I test, strip, and post it up on ebay. Hey, it got me my hp ze5200 laptop and lest me have a good amount of pocket change for a 13yr old.
