Clicking? No, it shouldn't click. "Whirring" from the disc spinning up and down is normal, though.

mines making a slight clicking sound as well as the whirring. it starts reading then stops just goes on like that for a few mins. when i take the disc out there is condensation on the protective case around the UMD.

That sounds abit dodgy mate..you may want to seek out the warranty on that thing..im glad i took mine back and im not getting another one as sony is poor at making products i swear there designed to die within a week ..cough cough PS2...but hey there you go

Condensation?!? That's quite bad, I don't even know how that could be happening. Even in a very humid environment, I would expect the heat inside the unit to be higher than the air temperature. Very strange, I would definitely be looking at a warranty exchange if the disc stops reading for minutes at a time like you claim.

Bah. It's clear that you had a bad run with your PSP, but that doesn't mean Sony makes poor products. My PSP, PS2, original PS, DVD player, and surround sound receiver have all worked like a champ from day one. The PSP is a good product and their electronics divisions make quality products. My only complaint with Sony is their neverending quest to dictate new media formats to us (BetaMax, MiniDisc, UMD, Blu-Ray...stop it already, Sony!!!)
