Overclocking check

Hey guys , obviously I've got a question.

I've been OC'ing again and have tried some things. Now, I think you should know that the last Time I OC'ed i got 2.3ghz max from stock 1.8ghz. Now, I've been OC'ing again and saw a totally strange thing in my Bios. There was afeature called HT ratio. It goes from 1-4. Normally it's 4 so I changed it to 3 so I could see what it did.
Maybe you think I'm a moron, but I got a MAX of 2.55ghz now and stable as well. With the FSB at max: 300, and the best thing is that the temp is absolutely normal (so not too high)
How is this possible, and is this a good thing to do? Or should I change back to the 2.3ghz with HT-ratio 4??

your ht ratio has to be set so ya fsb x ht ratio 1,2,3,4,5 adds up to around no more than 1000mhz, so YES setting it at 3x would make it a hell of a lot happier, well done. now you can go a lot further ahead on your overclock now!

Yeah I had a proble finding that setting, but when I did it really lest you boost your oc, so just raise the fsb, raise your voltages, and see where you can go with that thing.

if he has a 4x HT he most likely has a s754 which will only go to 800 MHz but runs really crappy if its anything above it. running at a lower HT doesn't hurt performance any because there's too much bandwidth there at the current moment to use. you'd have to load up, like SLI GTX cards, gigabit LAN running at the full gigabit, SCSI cards and all sorts of other crap, then you might be able to use your 800 MHz HT

anyways, not bad, is it stable or just bootable?

Socket 939 Support's a maximum HTT of 1000Mhz and Socket 754 has a maximum of 800 Mhz

The HTT is determined by the HTT Bus speed and the HTT Multiplier, so the HTT Bus speed x HTT Multi = HTT

You must keep the HTT under 1000Mhz for 939 and 800Mhz for 754.

there is no FSB on the Athlon 64's it's called Hyper Trasport Technology

Like 'buttmud' say's there is no noticible disadvantage to using a lower HTT, i really only ever have mine set at 3x and i have never noticed any 'bad' effect's in benchmarks or even just running Windows.

HTT = FSB = LDT....its all the same thing, and some of these people switching over to AMD or the "uneducated" don't know what HTT is or LDT, so gotta use the old term which just so happens to be = FSB
