Gf 6600 Gt

Hi, this is my first post here. This might take a while to read but please bear with me...

Anyways i bought a Sparkle GF 6600 256mbDDR 8xAGP last saturday, the week before Xmas after i decided to upgrade after almost 3 years from a GF4 Ti4200 128mbDDR333 8xAGP (£135, worth £10 now!..) and was blown away. The new card didnt seem to actually be better than the Ti, anyway after a while of disbelief i did a test with 3dmark 05 finally. The results were terrible, got like atleast 1000 points lower compared to everyone else with same card/system specs. Turns out my memory clock on my Sparkle 6000 was only ___ 12!!! ___ Mhz, so im like *** u know. Its core was only like 350Mhz, hardly ,much for a midrange card 2GENERATIONS newer than my Ti. I took it back and got a Gf Pixel View 6600GT 128mbDDR333, This was a fantastic card, forget that it wasnt faulty at least. Games ran much smoother and all was fine, until I overclocked like a rabid monkey. I messed up the card and basicly there was "horizontal lines at random places" its called pixelation i believe, notto metion Lawnmower man and predator esque colours, u know totally like people just red or all scary yellow like liquid metal. Really freaky, so i gave it back and got it replaced with the SAME card. The new 6600GT card default clocks of core/mem 500/900Mhz, and could over clock to 562/1.06 GHz max it wudnt let me go further. Anyways i did get artifacts in FARCRY but not as noticeable as SWAT4.

Can i get some feed back from people with same gards who had similar problems or any issues or any info in general for the card, that would be much appreciated

That's a pretty decent overclock on your new card, but you might want to back down just a little untill the artifacts go away completely. (That's what those random lines/bit's of color are called.)

And Welcome to the Forums!

i have the XFX geforce 6600gt *pci-e* and they are great cards for the price. stock speeds are 500/1000 and i have it running at 561/1133. they overclock nice and give me a score of 7000 in 3dmark 05 *in SLi*

I got a 3d mark 05 score of 2719. most if not all other cards got like 3000 points. To be honest im sure my bios isnt configured right, is "Grahphic win combine" good to enable in bios? OMG if those pixelations ARE ARTIFACTS then damn... I had those even at stock 500/900, so can i gues the card is faulty? However before i overclocked at stock speeds when i set the antialiasing to 8xS the pixelation went away, however THAT problem was only in the intro videos for SWAT4. Even at stock i would encounter what i call "Artifacts" u know like a texture miss mapping of sorts. Like bits of a gun is missing, people dont have arms and holes an stuff, basicly going off logic, textures are missing and in the wrong place, EVEN AT STOCK!!!

Is my card faulty, this time around when i opend the card it had a strong plasticy smell, u know like somethings totally new.
Well what i should have guessed that with PXEL VIEW id get PIXELATION...

well if it's doing all that, then it's not a good card. try going with an eVGA geforce6600gt or an XFX 6600GT. they are almost always flawless. i have had 2 evga and 3 xfx's and they have always given me more than what i was expecting. *note: you can also overclock them to hell and when they break, send it in, and get a new one*

Wow but i thought warranties were voided if the card was overclocked by end user? My local shop said the if a card is returned all they do is send it back and theyl just replace it. Im thinking alot of cards go back, so how do they still make money? Or is it Nvida who just says that warranties are voided by overclocking and not the resseler like PIXEL VIEW?
