It only has 3 slots...

Also, I said I was running 3 sticks fine earlier.

Another update:

I just put my old 3 stick setup back in...it detects all 768 megs of it...what the hell??? So nothing's dead it looks like, my board just doesn't seem to wanna recognize the stick in the third slot for some reason...even though the stick is fine...

GA-8I848P775-G Motherboard - 14 -
English
The motherboard supportsDDR memory modules, whereby BIOS will automatically detect memory
capacity and specifications. Memory modules are designed so that they can be inserted only in one direction.
The memory capacity used can differ with each slot.
Before installing the memory modules, please comply with the following conditions:
1. Please make sure that the memory used is supported by the motherboard. It is
recommended that memory of similar capacity, specifications and brand be used.
2. Before installing or removing memory modules, please make sure that the computer power
is switched off to prevent hardware damage.
3. Memory modules have a foolproof insertion design. A memory module can be installed in
only one direction. If you are unable to insert the module, please switch the direction.

I'm running Socket 478, but yes, it is double sided. The RAM I had in before was single sided.

That seems to explain it though, nice find.

But now I'm really mad that I have a 512 stick that I don't know what to do with!!!! I'm wondering if I should just leave it in there maybe as a spare or something...or buy a new board or what?!? argh! I wonder if I could BS an RMA to Newegg...

Yes it does explain it. Glad I could help... I guess you could try the rma process but there is nothing wrong with the memory... Perhaps you could just sell it to someone on this site or some other. Or, as you mentioned, you could keep it as a spare... All good ideas

Yeah that's the thing with ddr... no more than two double sided sitcks on one channel. So duel channel not only allows double the bandwith but also double the sticks.

*throws at wall* now there is!!!!

Haha well also my friend has a nice ECS socket 478 motherboard (865 chipset) that has 4 slots, I'm wondering if I should buy it off him, probly run me about $40. Really don't know if it's worth it. I guess I'll stick with my one gig for now, and maybe tinker with overclocking

As a stock board it might be okay. But in my experience ECS boards are not worth ANY money. They are:turd: for any kind of tweaking. I have heard they are getting better, but that wouldn't include anything more than a couple of months old...
