Win98se and lots of RAM

Thread Starter
Question. I am messing around with an old machine, it has windows 98 second edition on it.

Wasn't there a problem with windows 98 not being able to recognize any memory chip above 128 Megs. There was a 512 meg chip in it and the resources free dipped down to 14%. I have a 256 chip in now and i'm seeing where it goes from here.........

but the big question was would win98 see anything above 128 megs, or was it just it was uncacheable after the 128 megs? thx.

My old computer had 98 and 256mb of ram and it fully recognized it so 98 shouldn't be the problem...

I think i can remember that problem. Wasnt it something to do with the service pack version? Try upgrading the service pack. Hold on and ill find out more.

Rumor had it as, Windows 98 could not utilize any more than 256 megs of ram, regardless of how much you had. Ya it recognizes 512, 768 ect, but will not use anymore than 256. That problem went away with Windows 2000 pro.
