4 x 1gb or 2 x 2gb crucial ballistix tracer ddr3 1600 dual channel

Thread Starter
i'm having a hard time finding this ram decently priced for 2 x 2gb sticks in the blue led. so i'm thinkin of doing 4 x 1gb sticks since they have those on newegg in blue rather cheap compared to crucial site for the 2 x 2gb which is the only place i can find at the moment that has the 2 x 2gb blue in stock.

any huge drawbacks that i should be concerned with?

i realize it will fill up all my ram slots on the p55-gd65, but i'm mainly using my i5 build for gaming. plus side is ill have many blue leds to burn out my eyes with.

You should be looking for performance from the RAM before looking at how many LED's it has.

I would go with 2x2GB. It would put less stress on your memory controller and IMHO is cheaper. There really are no draw backs perse. so do not worry about it.

Running 4 dimms adds strain to the memory controller and therefore may cause more headaches when trying to get it running at stock speed.
Run 2x2GB modules for the same reasons as others have stated above--2 DIMMs will put less pressure on the mem controller as opposed to 4
