MB w/NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16

Hiya All,

I see ASUS has a MB out now with the NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16 chip set, if I understand this right if you are doing SLI then both cards will run at x16 and not x8 like on the other boards. I not a totally big fan of ASUS due to personal problems with some of the MB’s in the past. I am still in the process of buying upgrades and I am just wounding if it is worth getting this board or to wait for someone like DFI to pop on out?

The MB:

Also (side note) – what is your take on this ram?

They have it on sale and is that good timing?

Thanks!

The A8N32-SLI is a good motherboard and i've heard it rival's the DFI Motherbaord's on overclocking features

That RAM isn't the best you could get for that money, it's timing's are pretty loose (crap) and it's PC3200 which means that you'll probably have to go even looser to get a nice overclock or you could use a divider.

I'd say stick with a nice DFI board although i've heard the A8N32 is a good board, and don't get that RAM.

EDIT://

Yes you are correct when two GPU's are being used in SLI they will operate at 16x each instead of sharing the 16 lanes between each other.

This will make no difference really because nothing uses all that bandwidth, AGP8x offers way more bandwidth than any games use nowadays anyway so don't worry about that.

x16 on each card isnt gonna make you any faster, If it does its not gonna be noticable. I would agree and say get a DFI SLI-DR.

So I could just stick with getting a DFI board with SLI since I will not see a boost with the x16 for each card vs x8.

Exactly, no reason to pay 100$ more. =)

I'm very happy with my DFI SLI-DR
