My X850Pro Modding Experience - Page 2

The x850 Pro you boguht from Compusa was fully moddable?
I was about to buy one myself, but afraid from days of researching.
Is your ram 1.6ns?
Can you respond quickly because the instant rebate is ending soon.
I don't want to miss this opportunity.
Thank you

Yes it was fully modable, and has the 1.6ns RAM. I was hoping I could unlock it, but I knew it was a crap shoot. For $229, it's still a great deal for the kind of performance you get, even at 12 pipes. Unlocking the 4 pipes gave me approximately 8-10% better framerates in HL2. Nothing to cry about if it doesn't work. I mean, 100 fps, or 110 fps @ 1280x1024 is fast either way.

My serial number is 18052xxxxxxx-01. People seem to be having luck with the cards that start with 18052 and 18053. It's printed on the outside of the box, so look for those numbers.

Good luck!!

I'm running it at 552/585, and it seems to be stable in games.
Please post your FPS and temperature profile.

Thank you.

Thanks for the reply MrBlink,
I just ordered the X850 Pro from Compusa!
I hope it's fully moddable just like yours! =D

As for the forums, thanks for giving valuable information to those
who wants to verify the card being capable of unlocking without opening the box.

Wonderful Job. !

Using ATITool 0.25 Beta 10

The first screen capture shows the stock cooling temperature profile with the stock core/mem values of 500/500 for my X850 Pro w/ 12 pipes.

The second capture shows the stock cooling temp profile for core/mem overclocking at PE speeds of 540/590 w/ 12 pipes.

Key Finding:

1. High temperature maximum @ 70 C using stock cooling

Will follow up with results from flashing to X850 XT PE and X850 Pro with 16 pipes using stock cooling.

cheers!

I'm using atitool .24, so I only have 2 temp boxes on that screen. Here are my results:

500/500 = 228 FPS, 52/43 temp
550/580 = 263 FPS, 56/46 temp

This is at 16 pipes, and Arctic Cooler running at 100%.

After several iterations of the x850 Pro BIOS w/ 16 pipes and x850 XT PE BIOS w/ 16 pipes on my X850 PRO 256MB AGP VIVO card I have the following results.

I removed the stock cooling and added the Zalman VF-700 Cu. Removed the stock thermal grease and replaced with Artic Silver 5.

3D Mark05 Results:

X850 Pro 16 Pipes w/ PRO BIOS(540/590): 5824 (Max. Temp. 52 C)

X850 Pro 16 Pipes w/ XT PE BIOS(559/598): 6491 (Max. Temp. 56 C)

I bought one of these cards from CompUSA about 2 weeks ago and just found this and a couple of other threads from different forums talking about the same topic. So I thought I would try it out. S/N of my card is 18054...... The pipes were locked at 12 so a no-go for me. if you type "flashrom -i" you will get info about the card and one of the columns is "lock". Mine said "yes" under it. This was with the xt bios and the pro bios. This would be a way to check before booting back into windows.

Attachment 18311

I guess I can live with the pro performnce.
