RAM not running at spec speeds [Update] - Page 2

Thread Starter
so I ran memtest with all 12GB recognized and I get errors. This is most likely the RAM then right? The_Duke and sdla4ever probably hit the nail on the head; its mushkin with this board.

So here's what happened:
First mobo only detects 8GB or 4GB of RAM.
I try set one (3x2GB): All six gigs are detected, Memtest passes
I try set two (3x2GB): Only four gigs are detected first time around. I change memory timings, frequency, voltage, 6GB deteced, memtest passes
I try both sets (6x2GB): All twelve gigs are detected, memtest fails.

So it seems that its a problem with the RAM and the motherboard

Thanks for all your help guys.

Flash to the newest bios.

You will probably need to crank QPI volts to run 12gb of RAM... Try 1.375v and work your way up. I know that may stabilize the memory, but I think it could also lead to detecting it properly hopefully.

How do I set the QPI voltage?

Just because a specific brand isn't supported don't make it unusable.
It may however make it difficult as you've experienced.

Now that it's working to some degree, you'll likely have to tweak further to get it stable.

What exactly should I tweak? Sorry for being such a noob.

The RAM fails in the same range every time ~8GB, if that means anything

Update:

So I went out and bought some Corsair RAM from Microcenter, and all the RAM was detected, and memtest ran through perfectly fine. Now I've got another problem.
When I run any stress testing software, I get errors. What could be causing this? Now I'm starting to think there's something wrong with my motherboard.

You have to increase the QPI/CPU VTT volts to something like 1.35v to make it stable. Using 12GB puts more stress on the memory controller on the CPU. But it could also be that your board does not properly support 12GB of memory.

I upped the VTT to 1.394 and the stress test fails at when my RAM is at the spec'd 1600MHZ. However, when I underclock it to 1333mhz it works just fine.

1. This seems like an issue with my voltages
2. I'm getting the code AA from my mobo: (Uninstall POST INT1Ch vector and INT09h vector. Deinitializes the ADM module). Is this related? I've looked around but I can't find anything that makes sense.
I know I'm doing something wrong...I just don't know what.

edit: I think I may have found my problem. These boards can only take 3 DIMMs at 1600mhz (at stock voltages). http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=103559
