It would probably not work because you would have to submerge both the cool and hot side.

u can run ATF insted of water or mineral oil ATF auto trany fluid is a lube and a coolent and it is non conductive so if u ever get a leak u will make a mess but nothing will fry it will just be an oily mess inside ur case

another thing all oils will over time degrade hoses so u will have to chnage them out evry half yr but that might be a good time to do an oil chnage anyway

the up side to useing oil is thier will be almost no evaporation so its a set it and forget it kinda deal

just white mineral oil yea it wont work so grate But ATF is a mineral oil with a bunch of aditives #1 job of ATF fluid in a trans is coolent #2 is a lube #3 is hydralick to do all 3 tasks the oil is engeneerd to cool lube and not brake down due to tempeture

and if u think that ATF is just some evry day mineral oil with red coulering think againe pour point of most ATF fluids is -50c pour point of the lightest mineral oil is -20c

yea if u ever wanted to stop useing atf and go to a antifreez mix it would be a major pita to clean out the rad but can be done useing high preshure steam , water block and pump can be taken apart to clean

what some one should do is run a loop with water then water+antifreez mix then dry the whole loop out and run ATF and compare the temp of each during a bench mark with the same ambient temp

i have used atf and i agree and i have done a dex cool+water loop and a plain water loop. can't remember the temps i had.

back to the fish tank i still have all my rads and pumps and a few hundred feet of tube left. so if i did this all so with mineral oil in the tank with one of my rads and pumps with a way to chill the oil. and how many rads would keep it colder. i have 4 Feser X-Changer Triple 360 with fans for all. the only thing i don't have is a tank but i can get one.

all my parts are cleaned so i can do this whenever

The problem here is that Transmission Fluid is not as good a coolant as water. It has a lower specific heat because it does not have any polar bonds in. Most ATF fluids are also less dense, which makes them much worse at cooling a PC loop than water.

If you are looking to go seriously sub-zero then yes, ATF may be a better mix for you, but if you want to go sub minus-20C then it would be easier to recommend a full phase change or DICE/LN2 setup.

I'm not sure that anyone would want to risk frying their rig by doing that. Yes, ATF is a good lubricant, yes, it is an ok coolant and yes, it is a liquid but liquids that are to be used in watercooling don't need to lubricate, they just need to cool, and for this, water is superior to any oil. Most oils have an SHC of roughly 2000J/KG, this is less than half the SHC of water.

Mineral oil is extremely easy to buy, it's about £3 per litre from some shops.
