Questions on my upcoming X850 Pro AGP pipe unlock flash

Thread Starter
I got a couple questions about my ATI X850 Pro AGP ViVo R481, and the monstrosities I'm thinking about commiting on it I'll start with what I think is top priority for me to know, and thanks for the replies in advance.

Backup card: I've seen Sphere say a couple times to have a PCI backup video card incase the flash doesn't work, and so to get back onto the boot disk and flash it back, you need a working video card.

The only other graphics card I have is my ATI 9800 Pro AGP8x, and I don't have access to a PCI card, is there anything else I could do if the flash went wrong?

Also, what are the chances of the flash going wrong? They seem pretty low, especially if I got your guys help to make sure I'm going to be flashing the right BIOs

Which leads me to my next question...

I've spent a good couple hours today overclocking my card with ATI Tool, trying to find my max stable clock speeds and also checking out temperatures. Being able to control the fan speed is great, and my temps are definetly low enough to be able to have unlocked and OCed, even if it means a louder fan. The max stable speeds I seem to be able to hit is 540mhz/600mhz , the core speed is less then expected but the memory speed seems decent enough, I'm pretty sure I got the Samsung 1.6ns memory.

However, I've not been able to give it the full 100% stability assurance yet (usually I like just using it for a couple weeks, playing games and everything), does anyone know if theres an X850 Pro AGP BIOs that will unlock the extra pipelines, but keep the stock 500/500 clock speeds? From there I could just use an ATI Tool configuration to whatever speeds I want.

I hear that once you unlock the pipes, your clock speeds might not be able to go as high anymore, is it ever true for the opposite? (clock speeds can go higher with unlocked pipes), but thats one of the reasons I wouldn't want to unlock at higher clock speeds right from the get go. Also does flashing it with a different BIOs, such as X850 XT/ PE, increase the voltage to the core or memory at all?

I know this sounds really noob, but would anyone be willing to help me with exactly which program and BIOs to use for the flash? I've read practically every thread on here on the subject, and though I've learned alot, I'm also confused with all the different terms, ATI flash, flashrom, modified flash rom, all the different BIOs, people saying that they flashed it with one thing and the pipes weren't unlocked, just OCed card, then they flashed it again and the pipes were unlocked and everything. Not quite sure which ones to use for my situation.

I did that cool shift+click settings button for ATI Tool, this is what it told me:

CONFIG_DIE_FUSES 0xFFFFFFFF
CONFIG_ROM_FUSES 0xFFFFFF9F
CONFIG_ROM_FUSES 0x861
GB_PIPE_SELEC 0x2724

From Sphere's brief description on how to read this in one of the threads, it seemed like I would be able to unlock for sure, (Fs in the 2 spots he mentioned), but I see somebody with a simmilar first 2 lines said his didn't unlock (maybe he didn't do it properly).

So in light of the super long post, I'll recap my main questions:

1. Anyway to reverse a bad flash without a PCI GFX card?
2. Which BIOs and tool should I use exactly?

Thanks a bunch in advance, especially look forward to hearing from Sphere

Well you could always do a blind flash I believe if something goes wrong, and you don't have a pci card. Which is when you're flashing it without having any idea of what you're typing in. I never had this trouble though, so I don't know.

As for the bios I used this
Bios

Modified Flashrom

As for the instructions I used this

The BIOs that you linked to, is that X850 Pro clock speeds of 500/500 with 16 pipes unlocked?

I've been doing more extensive stability checking, and it appears my core can't even hit 540mhz, and the memory can go to 580mhz. Still doing more tests though.

This is the bios I used for my X850 Pro AGP and it worked great. It keeps the stock clock speeds but unlocks 16 pipes. As for the flashing utility I used the same as dnguyen posted above.

Thanks for the link mitch.

That BIOs keeps your fan control right?

Curious though, if the pipes were to be locked, since I bought my X850 Pro AGP fairly recently, will there be artifacts and stuff, or will it just say 12pipe lines?

And one last question, should I uninstall my Catalyst drivers before doing the flash? I keep reading that its gonna recognize it as a different card, so would the best course of action be to uninstall the drivers, then flash it, then reinstall the drivers if its succesful afterwards?
