X850XT 256MB vs X800XL 512MB

Thread Starter
I was looking at video cards, and I was wondering which would be better. They are about the same price ($249 for x850 and $259 for x800 w/ 512mb), but would more RAM necessarily be better? I know that normally the x850xt is 520/540 and that the x800xl is 400/490, in which case I wouldn't think so, but the x800xl that I found on newegg does not say what speeds it runs at: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16814102579

Here is the x850 as well for reference: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16814102483

The 256mb X850 XT is definetly the faster card.

The 512mb on the X800 XL is more or less a gimmick, the extra memory does very little, though in the future it will help a bit more, but the X850 XTs considerablly higher clock speeds and ability to overclock will always make it faster.

Games are really only recently starting to need 256mb to run at high settings, it'll be a while before 512mb is in the same situation.

Also, the X800 XL 512mb will perform just a tiny bit better then the X800 XL 256mb version, and you can see that those are alot cheaper.

The only game known to truly benefit from 512 mb drastically is Call of Duty 2, I expect more and more games to be coming out that will use more then 256mb of video memory, especially if you lik AA and AF.
