Dell desktop too small!!

Thread Starter
I am helping out my brother. He wants to upgrade his system, but not do a rebuild. Add some RAM Video Card etc thats about it. The problem is he has a Dell optiplex gx270
http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:K...ient=firefox-a

Small case and crap power supply. Will this MBO fit in a regular tower. (I know sometimes these small things never quite line up). or is he stuck with the Dell case and therefor is restricted in what Graphics cards he can get.

The blocking software here at work won't allow me to follow your link above, but I'll give you some general info that may be applicable. Most motherboards follow standard specifications. Some common ones are ATX, microATX, and miniATX. As long as you find a case that matches the form factor of the motherboard, it'll fit fine. Most mid and full tower cases can handle smaller motherboards just fine.

One caution - Dell tends to do things their own way, so check out the size of the motherboard and the location of the holes to make sure it matches one of the standards. Also, it is usually a good value to upgrade the stock mobo and PSU that come with Dell systems. That, on top of a new video card and RAM, should make for a much improved system.
