SATA HDD Showing as unpluggable storage unit

Thread Starter
I have that little mass storage unit icon showing all the time. the one with a green arrow and a little grey box under it. the only time on it though when I open it up is my hard drive, a Maxtor SATA 300gb.

Is this comman for SATA drives? can I get rid of it?

Also when I try to install Linux on a partition I have set aside Linux will not reconize it, what can I do?

Yes that removeable icon is normal, the NF4 SATA2 controller supports hot swapping. Obviously you can't do that to your OS drive but any other Serial ATA HDD that's connected to that controller that is not in a RAID array can be swapped out quite easily.

As for linux instead of setting aside a partition, delete it and let the version of Linux create its own type of partition.

Did you configure the drive in the RAID section as "B" or bootable where you "F" key into the RAID BIOS?

heh, i have this same thing. my SATA drive shows as a removable device. kind of annoying, but oh well, as long as it's not a "problem," i'm okay with it i guess.
