Computer Upgrade

Thread Starter
I have been using this build for a year and a half now and i think i might need an upgrade since i tried playing NFS Shift at the higheset setting and find it lagging, i use to play GRID at highest setting with no lag but now i can't fly the highest setting with NFS Shift and also i desperate need to upgrade PSU as it the most important part of a computer as i'm using a budget PSU atm. So i'm planning spend $850NZD(equivalent to $600USD) to upgrade some of the component of my current build. Anyone is welcome to give advise what to upgrade, thanks

Definitely your GPU / PSU.

The rest looks alright. Is that Kingston RAM?

I don't know what you can find there, but I'd try for a 5850 + Corsair/Antec/Thermaltake Toughpower 500-700W.

A 5850 is ~$300-$350 US, and a PSU of the caliber listed above is $100 or less, if you buy over here.

That is Kingston ValueRAM running at DDR2-800 speed, i know it kind of crap not good for gaming but if i have extra money in my budget i might condsider upgrading that as well

It won't hold you back. It's mainly your GPU, which is limited by your PSU. Your CPU would be the next upgrade, but at that point you'd probably just want to consider a new platform.

New platform? Nah don't have money to go for a entire new platform just looking for an upgrade as i don't have a lot of money also the Q6600 accommodates my multitasking needs. And your right the things i should upgrade is GPU and PSU but if i have more money i might also upgrade memory as well. Looking towards other advises from users and compare them. Then i make my final decision

all i can reccomend is the GPU and the PSU and maybe your CPU cooling. Otherwise everything is sweet (but make sure you OC that Q6600, it should last alot longer at 4ghz )
The biggest upgrade you can do would be the GPU. Everything else seems fine.

Go with a 4870/5770, and you should be set for a while. If you want nVidia instead, get the GTX 260 216.

However, I do think that after this GPU upgrade, you should look into buying a better branded PSU. That is the one component that you should not cheap out on.

What kind of PSU do you all recommend with this upgrade budget?
