Safe Volts?

As you can see I have a Phenom II x2 550. I guess I just got a little bit unlucky with the OC capability of my chip but I have to have it at 1.525v for 3.8 Ghz (dual core) overclock(yes I have bumped up NB voltage quite a bit and tried everything, just a stubborn chip). I was wondering what the highest safe voltage is. (btw my temps for 3.8 @ 1.525v is 46C Prime95) Basically, if my cooler can handle the high voltage, is there any risk for running it that high? To get above 3.8 I have to go above max recommended voltage (1.55v) but my CPU cooler doesn't seem to have any trouble with that. I just wanted to get some opinions before I step it up past 1.55v.

The recommended safe voltage of a phenom II chip is 1.55v, 1.6v is about as high as you should go. Higher voltages and even at safe temperatures can still cause damage too your chip. A CPU becomes less responsive to voltage after a certain point anyway, it is probable that it would take at least another tenth of a volt to be able to get even 100 more mhz stable.

Well that's kind of what I'm getting at. I hit a big brick wall @ 3.6 GHz as a quad (maybe one of the cores is unstable) but I can run 3.5 quad @ 1.4v and to get 3.6 stable it's 1.475v..I have not been able to get it stable past 3.6 with 1.55v. I'm running @ 3.5 because I don't think for 3.6 an extra 0.075 voltage bump is worth it. I just wanted to see how high I could take it as a dual core, so you're saying I should cut it at 1.6v?

Yes I am saying that. It is probably best not to push the chip so far that is starts to deteriorate before you plan to replace it.

well I've heard that the cpu core is turned off 2 because those 2 is weak, so turning it on and OC it, might hardly stable, but if U are lucky enough U will get it stable. I agree with Ur decision, since Ur temp are good so push it till U get the max speed it able to reach.
