New setup problem

Thread Starter
I had previously bought and upgraded my system (see specs), and I had hoped that it would solve the problem of the monitor light blinking, and not starting up, but it didn't. After switching outall the parts of my comp, it turned out to be the CPU itself causing the problem. Now, I previously had a 3200+ Winchester, and a few hours ago I popped in a new 3500+ Venice. It worked for about 15 minutes, as I was trying to install Windows, but it would just pause at the first set of options (set up windows = ENTER, repair an install = R, not do anything = F3), and not continue. I restarted it, and it did the same thing, so I thought the keyboard, seeing as it's pretty old, had a dud key, so I plugged in a new keyboard, and when I started it up, the same problem (the blinking monitor light) occured. I replugged my other keyboard in, and it didn't work. So I reset the CMOS jumpers, and took out the battery, but still nothing. I replugged the HDD and CD cables (IDE and power). Nothing seems to want to work now, and I have replaced EVERYTHING in my comp.
The cool thing about this mobo, that would help me pin down what's causing the problem, is a series of 4 lights near the bottom. The manual refers to it as "system condition LEDs".

4 lit up - system start up
3 lit up - CPU detetced
2 lit up - RAM detected
1 lit up - VGA detected
0 lit up - system boot

Before I upgraded the CPU, 3 lights were lit, so I'm guessing the lights indicate that something is wrong with somehting, depending on how many lights are lit up. Now, when I start it up, all 4 are lit up, so that leads me to think that something "system start up" related is messed up, but I'm not sure what. Anyone have a similar problem, or the same mobo or any suggestions?

read the user's manual to determine the led code.

On my dfi 4 lights is start up, 3 is cpu detection, 2 is ram, 1 is vga, and none is go!

Try reseating cpu, ram, vga, and all cable (molex, data, etc.) connectors and running DIMM's in orange slots. Clear the CMOS and make sure to move the jumper back. Also, make sure that the cpu retention arm is fully down. Good luck and let us know how it went.

well it might be your ram because corsair doesnt work with the settings that DFI provides you with.

I've done pretty much all of that, except for the orange slots, so I'll give that a shot.

Hmmmm...it was working with the Corsair ram I had installed for about 15 minutes, so do you think it came across an error and just flat out won't turn on now? I got a stick of 256MB PC3200 from PNY with my CPU, so I'll try that out as well.

I'll update momentarily.

Ok, so I reseated them into the orage slots, and it turned on, but still no progress.

I took them out and put the PNY stick in, and it still wasn't giving me the beep or the picture on the screen. This is exactly what was going on with my previous setup. You think there may be a dud part on the mobo, cause I have pretty much replaced every part in my comp, and this is just getting weird.

It's always all 4 lit up, with everything I've tried thus far. I'll try the single stick in the orange slot and let you know.

I checked on dfi-street.com and I saw a thread regarding whether Corsair ValueSelect RAM will work on the Lanparty series. Turns out that the boards were never designed or tested for this kind of RAM, and it's the exact kind of RAM I have, so do you think it's a compatibility issue?
