Is this a good choice?

OK hi this is my first post here so hello to all and thank you in advance for any help you will be offering me. I'm looking to do 3 things in the next month on a budget of a father of 4 so I can t be too extravagent. I want to get a second gig of Value ram to get my board up to 2 gigs. It's a bit long overdue but I ll be adding a 160GB Sata HD and putting a fresh install of windows on it.
The part I m needing advice on is what to do about a vid card. The one I have now is so overclassed by the games out now that its sad. I've squeezed it as hard as I can and its poor 4 little pipes are surely ready to burst when I play Doom3 on it. Im highly stable with my current setup but I want more like everyone else here. I'm bound to AGP for now and I know the cieling is the 850xtpe but thats a bit beyond what I want to spend on a vid card. I have toyed with some cheaper versions and soft modding to a greater card and have decided thats the route to go especially considering I want modest performance on a budget. Here s the current idea I have and I'd like any input or better ideas that I may be missing on. I'm gonna buy at the end of January mid Febuary so I can recover from the Christmas toy expendeture. I d like to keep this in the $150 USD range Without busting the $200 dollar mark. I found this http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=323263
and I have seen here on many threads that it has the same core as the GT/Ultra counterparts with the pipes locked but with only DDR instead of DDR3. Is this correct or is there a better card to mod up to that can be had in my desired range. Once again hello to all and thankyou for all your help, I look forward to reading the posts.
Oh yea one last thing, I ll be doing a full rebuild in mid 2007, 2008 if things do not go as planned, so this is a medium range final add on to this system.

well your best bet for budget would be a 6600GT. if you can find a 6800GS they're right around 200 and they perform on par w/ a 6800GT at stock speeds, and I hear the GS OC's quite well

Hey I like that GS card with the ddr3 much better than the 128MB ddr that I was looking at. I ll need to find an AGP version of it elsewhere, seems newegg doesn t have one in AGP. Now heres the next question. Is there a 4/1 rendering quad there that can be opened up on that brand card? Thanks again gang.

Nice, I just looked at the product specs on them bad boys and I like what I see. Is it a safe assumption that its going to be at the 200USD price point like its pci-e counterpart? If so then I shall wait for it to hit the retailers and let my mind be at ease till that day. I m glad nvidia decided to give AGP a little more life though cause I really wanted 16 pipes and ddr3 and I thought it wasn t going to happen at what I wanted to spend. Thanks.

Ok so I lied I can t stop thinking about video cards LOL. I m a junkie and I guess I ll just never be satisfied. I was wondering while I m looking at all these cards which of the 3, GPU speed, memory tech or fuctioning pipelines is most important to overall performance. Is a 6600GT with DDR3 and 8 pipes better than a 6800 vanilla with DDR and 12 pipes. I know that they need to coexist in some sort of balance as to maximize performance and not waste other on card resources but it seems all so convoluted with all the different makes and models and letters after the numbers and how this all relates to memory bandwidth and fill rates and.... oh well I guess I couldn t just leave it at whats the best sub 200$ card for my AGP system. Peace.
