How do you check if its a socket 479 or 478?

It's ok, i was toatly lost when i first entered compters myself hopefully im passed those days

oh on your computer.. tell me the motherboard, and the model...uh, download CPU-Z first here, and go to the motherboard tab. There it will give you information about your motherboard. Tell me the info, and ill see if you have a socket 478 or 423. (i actually ment 423 not 479, thinking about another post...sry)

Heheh Thx alot for the help. Ill post again when i get everything updrated, give you a little update in about a week. But before i spend most of my pay check on this stuff i just wanna know what you think.

Processor: Intel P4 1.7Ghz
Ram: 738 DDR
MotherBoard: SiS 650
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 9550 256mb-128bit

Ugrated Comp: (in about a week or so)

Processor: Intel P4 2.9Ghz
Ram: 2Gigs DDR
MotherBoard: DFI 865PE-TAG Socket 775 ATX Motherboard
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 9550 256mb-128bit

*Possibly a new case* hehe

Good investment? Everything should run smooth>?

Yea, that would look great, you have made some good choices... I would expect in the 90ish+ area for DOD:S
Make shure you include a lot of pics when you upgrade

oh, btw, your processor/motherboard is socket 478 (current one), the upgrade is LGA775

Thanks again! youve been the most helpfull guy ive ever met on a forum hahaha. Ill post alot of pics when i get it upgrated.. Hopefully next friday.. but 2 weeks tops! I cant wait.

Hmm Im thinking about a diferent motherboard now(478) I was looking at the prices from one of my local stores and I can get an Asus P4S800D-X for 89$(Canadian)

Specs On it are: PENTIUM 4 / CELERON (SIS655FX) 800MHz FSB AGP8X / 5PCI / 4DDR400 / 8USB2.0 / SATA MAX. 4.0GB RAM / 6-CH AUDIO / LAN / RAID

Maybe go with that 2.4 after all?
