Xbox 360 costs $715 to make - Page 2

bill gates could keep xbox360 funding for a looong time...so could sony with PS3...but i doubt its that much! If they order one and one processor, it will be expensive but if they mass order millions they will get cheaper prices which probably these magazines havent accounted for.

Meh, If they lose 300 per xbox sold, That means we the buyers have to buy $300 worth of games. Well anyone that knows anything about consoles knows how easily you can modchip one and install a bigger harddrive. That's what's killing microsoft. And you know what, I did it with my original xbox, and I plan on doing it with the newer. Theres so many of us ( Us be the xbox nerds, WHOOT! ) That are just waiting on the release of some xbox modchip/crack/hack or anything that will allow bonus features. If none are found, It's onto the ps3. I personally think the ps3 will get harass-dizzled by hackers due to the fact that xbox has prior experience with console hackers while ps2 / ps3 does not! Well the minor stuff like burnt games but that's about it.

Eh thats whats killing them? How? Bill Gates has said he doesnt care how much he loses on the Xbox series, he CAME into the console world expecting heavy losses. And the PS2 does have modchips to know knowledge, it was just not as moddable.. Besides, how is being harrassed by hackers hurt Sony if they make a secure system?

I'm just saying after all that crap that happened to the o.g. xbox that the new xbox SHOULD be a lot more secure, Whether it is or not we'll soon know As for the Ps2 all you could basically do was install a modchip and play burnt games, or use the drive as a burner. That was it. For the xbox there was crap like upgraded mobos, Running linux, ripping cds *not a mod but still pretty cool*. I think whichever console has the most mod-ability will be prevailing as the victor. Let's face it, After most of us spend all that money do we really honestly want to spend that much more on games that we'll play for like a month, two tops?

Too bad having anything non-native to the Xbox was detected and you wernt able to play on Xbox Live anymore. And Microsoft could probably not even care too much about the .1% of the population that know/use modchips.

Exactly. Even if .5% turn them into crappy, buggy Linux machines with 1TB of storage and file sharing galore... *twirls finger*

And actually, if they hit sales targets, MS has said they will hit profit on the 360 in mid-late 2006.

The well published number is $126 per unit per Core unit - premium is a near break even. That means you need an attach rate of like 3-4 games to hit profit.

a multi billion dollar industry doesn't get to be a multi billion dollar industry by losing billions of dollars...

there's no way microsoft is losing money on these consoles.
