i have used ATITool to overclock my 9700pro i was just wondering how i set the optimum values as the default... could someone please talk me through it, thanks.

I havent got it installed but if you have a look around there is an option to load profile at startup- you could always try and use the Omega drivers, it seems to much easier to me and all the overclocking is very similar, profiles, fan control, I think its better, they are modded drivers and can cause hassles with few people but they work very well for me.http://www.omegadrivers.net/ give them a go

I'm not sure that you can use ATI Tool to set an overclock as a default. It's pretty quick and easy to set your overclock, save a profiles, and then load that profile when you want the extra speed. ATI Tray Tool may have a default option. One easy program for applying an overclock is Radlinker. It allows you to create shortcuts for applications, and those shortcuts can have GPU overclocks embedded in them. It's pretty handy if you want to really push things for certain games and let the GPU run at stock speeds the rest of the time.
