on 3rd WD drive, keep grinding

Thread Starter
Ok. I dunno if I have bad luck or WD keeps sending me crap drives.

After about 9 months my first WD (160GB sata) started to grind. So I RMAd it, and again after about a month it started to grind so i RMAd that too.
Now on my 3rd drive, after 2 months, SAME THING. I have the PCI lock when I overclock too. SO i dont know what killing the freakin drives.

I have an old 80GB EIDE drive and It's RUNNING perfectly. THis sata drive keeps dying.

I am RMAing again but i really dont wanna make it my primary. Can anyone suggest a good 80GB hard drive?

How are the seagate Barracudas?

For anybody with any needs I reccomend either the Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200GB for $80 or the Maxtor MaXLine III 300GB for about $120, both are 7200RPM, SATA II and have 16MB of cache, run silently and cool and are really fast.

I've heard enought horror stories of maxtor that i've already crossed it out. No offense to your suggestion but from what ive seen, its got the highest RMA rate.

Hitachi and Seagate seem to be what im looking at.

Whatever happened to Quantum?

I have never had any issues with Maxtor drives in the past... So I hope my SATA drive will be just as reliable. You must have some lemmon lemmings.

all WDs make that grinding noise, but it really depends on if you have liquid or ball bearings, doesnt mean its dying =/.

I have 3 WD SATA HDDs as well and they're all perfectly fine. I'd sell you one but.... well ya know If I had to stray from WD I'd go with a Baracuda.

Hi - regarding Hitachi vs Seagate.

I'm running two Hitachi Deskstars in my rig and two Seagate Barracudas.

Performance and reliability wise I'd say there's no real difference between the two brands, but the Barracudas are slightly quieter and produce less vibration, so my vote would be to go for them.
