MSI FX5900 vs eVGA 6600GT

Thread Starter
ok, i am just trying to figure out where my MSI FX5900 stands against other nVidia cards. The MSI version is one of the best FX5900.

MSI GeForce FX5900
Core Clock: 400Mhz
Memory Clock: 850Mhz
Pixel Pipelines: 8
Memory Interface: 256-bit

Vs.

eVGA GeForce 6600GT
Core Clock: 500Mhz
Memory Clock: 900Mhz
Pixel Pipelines: 8
Memory Interface: 128-bit

So how does my FX5900 stand up against the 6600GT?

6600GT, Hands Down! the 5xxx series kinda sucked, pretty bad, and the 6600Gt is a very good card, as it supports SM3, which the 5xxx series doesnt. As in performance, the 6600GT takes it away for the best budget card around for its very nice price. As well, Evga gives you a Lifetime Warranty on the card, even if its out of date, it will be replaced, or repaired. While MSI has the standard 3year warranty, so evga (still), hands down for thr 6600Gt.

The 6600GT will be MUCH faster, the 5900 doesn't even stand a fighting chance.

The only thing better about the MSI FX5900 is the color scheme

Comparing the 5900 to the 6600GT is like comparing a 1.8GHz P4 Willamette to an FX-55.

the only reason i picked the 6600GT to compare it to is because the specs are fairly the same. so how would the card stand up to the 6600?

ASUS GeForce 6600

Core Clock: 300Mhz
Mem Clock: 500Mhz
PixelPipelines: 8
Memory Size: 128MB
Memory Interface: 128-bit

It would be a little less powerful than the 6600, but the 6600 has SM 3.0 support.

I have done the testing myself with those exact cards, and before I go any further, theres no way a 128bit memory interface is gonna "own" a 256bit interface,so after doing the tests, yes the 6600gt will have much better IQ,it can't keep up with the outright speed of the data transfer from the 256bit bus in the 5900XT,its physically impossible.Argue if you like,I've done the tests.Sometimes the truth hurts the 6 series guys.

Fine, if you say so, Go run that battlefield 2 with all high settings at a 1200+ resolution and tell me if you lag. That's what I thought. Geforce 6 series for the win. Data transfer isn't all it's made up to be. A 6600 won't lag a bit.

PS: You're not allowed to have non overclock.net links in your sig.
